Police in Derry are asking local people to report any incidents of graffiti being painted on the city walls.
On Sunday afternoon, police received a report that graffiti had been daubed on the walls at Society Street, close to St Augustine’s Church and the Verbal Arts Centre.
Sergeant Cathal Pearce, of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Teams, said: “While the graffiti was not political or sectarian, it undoubtedly spoils one of the city’s great landmarks.
“The damage was caused by red paint from an aerosol spray can between Friday night and Sunday morning.”
Information can be given by calling the police non-emergency number, 101, and asking for the Foyle City Centre NPT.
A floodlight has been stolen and two other damaged at St Mary’s Church at Fanad Drive in the Creggan area of Derry.
Inspector Mark Catterson said police would like to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the grounds of the church in the early hours of St Patrick’s Day.
Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
