Foyle MP Mark Durkan has paid a warm tribute to outgoing Mayor of Derry Brenda Stevenson, describing her passion for the city as ‘palpable’ and as someone who ‘lifted the hearts’ of so many throughout her term in office.
The SDLP politician said: “I want to thank Brenda Stevenson for all the action, energy and advocacy that she packed in to a very busy Mayor’s term.
“Brenda seemed to be always busy but never looked bothered as she engaged with such a range of causes and events.
“Her passion for Derry has been palpable and her compassion for its people shone throughout.
“The role of Mayor allows special witness of so much of the good that is undertaken by charities, communities, churches, services and professions across the city. Brenda was particularly warm and strong in reflecting that goodwill and good work, clearly listening to experiences and lifting hearts.
“Brenda really respected the privilege of civic service by strongly reflecting her pride in the efforts and achievements of fellow citizens. Known for been gregarious, Brenda also showed just how generous and gracious she can be as First Citizen.”
