Former Mayo GAA star Kevin McStay has labelled Derry’s Allianz National League clash with Dublin as ‘absolutely shocking’.
In a suffocating clash Dublin eventually ran out four-point winners on a paltry score-line of 0-08 to 0-04.
McStay said it was a ‘shocker’ of a game and believes the game’s legislators need to address the situation immediately because it’s choking the life out of the game.
Speaking as a pundit on League Sunday McStay said, “This game was just awful, an absolute shocker, it was just brutal.
“Derry were the main transgressors, Dublin also adapted a blanket defence and need to accept responsibility for the way they set-up, but Derry really were negative.
“Look this type of football was developed in Ulster and was taken its zenith by Jim McGuinness in 2012.
“It’s destroying the game and we’re getting to a stage where the games governing body will have to step in to resolve the situation.
McStay was also critical of both managers post-game interviews to the press and said they have to take responsibility for what happened.
“Twenty-thousand people paid into Croke Park to watch it and started booing, it’s not acceptable for them to come out and say that’s the way the game is going you need to adapt.
“There managers it’s up to them to what way they set-up there sides.
Derry where relegated following the result and have endured a horror league campaign in which they so far failed to win.
