DETECTIVES are hunting a gang of two WOMEN and two men who slashed a young woman in the face in a vicious sectarian attack in the Waterside.
The victim – who was left with blood pouring from her face – is being treated at Altnagelvin Hospital
She was walking through the subway tunnel in Duke Street beside the railway station at 10.30pm last night when she was approached by the four people.
One of the men asked the victim for a cigarette and when she declined he punched her in the face and began shouting sectarian abuse at her.
One of the women then walked up to the woman and sliced her face with an unknown weapon. The group then made off.
Police say the victim was left with cuts and bruising to her face.
The woman attacker is described as being approximately 20, with long blonde curly hair, wearing a yellow top, denim leggings and fluorescent coloured footwear.
Police are treating this incident as a hate crime and Constable D Smyth is appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone with any information to contact officers in Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the Independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
