THE heartbroken family of a Derry man who took his own life have called on the public’s help in a bid to find his remains.
The Campbell family want boat-owners and divers to join the search for Gary’s body.
His sister Sinead and brother Gavin have been on the banks of the River Foyle every day since his disappearance hoping the river will give up his remains.
Sinéad and Gavin Campbell have been at the River Foyle every day since then, hoping their brother’s remains will be recovered.
In an interview with UTV’s North West reporter Mark McFadden, the siblings said every day is a heartache, particularly for his mother.
Sinead told Mark: “It’s really difficult at the present moment in time.
“My mammy, she’s refusing to come out of her room, she won’t talk to anybody.
“She won’t answer the phone to anybody so she’s basically just locked herself away. She’s heartbroken.”
In a last ditched effort to give him a Christian burial, the family are appealing for help in recovering his remains.
Gavin told the veteran UTV reporter: “We are appealing to see if we can get divers, boats, any experienced divers.
“We as a family believe that he went in, that he’s stuck where he went in.”
The search and recovery operation is to be extended to include the Donegal shores along Lough Foyle.
In recent days specialist, water-based search operations have been carried out by Foyle Search and Rescue, Strabane Aqua Club and boat owners from Donegal.
