SDLP Foyle Westminster candidate Mark Durkan has handed in his nomination papers to the Electoral Office in Derry today accompanied by Nobel laureate John Hume and party colleagues.
Speaking outside the Electoral Office on Queen Street, Mr Durkan said: “I am delighted to be seconded by John and Pat Hume who I have worked with over many years.
“I am running in this election to maintain a progressive and positive Derry voice in parliament.
“Active parliamentary representation is part of the campaign effort we need on issues like welfare, public sector pay, pensions, taxes and budgets that affect people here.
“It is also important to take a stand on wider issues which affect the rights of others but also matter in principle to people in Derry.”
