INSTITUTE have been relegated from the Danske Bank Premiership after losing 2-1 at home to Ballymena United today.
The Waterside outfit have had no luck this season; playing well against many of the top teams and never getting their just rewards.
They went through the league from October without a win.
Today’s result proved meaningless; Warrenpoint’s draw at Dungannon ensured the Derry team would go down.
Alan Teggart’s penalty gave United the lead when Matt Young fouled Alan Jenkins but ‘Stute equalised just before the break though a Stephen Curry header.
But then Mark Forker headed into his own goal on 50 minutes – and that was that.
Dean Curry did head against the post late on but the draw wouldn’t have been enough.
It’s back to the Championship for ‘Stute but they can be proud of their efforts this year on limited resources.
