ONE of Derry’s greatest leaders in education has passed away.
Peter Gallagher was a former principal at both Derry Tech and Letterkenny Regional College.
He was the brother of the late Fr Jack Gallagher, former PP in Faughanvale and Tamnaherin.
Peter, a former St Columb’s College pupil, dedicated his life to bettering the lives of young people.
Dedicated to the Irish language and a fluent speaker, along with Father Jack he helped run Coláiste Uladh in Downings for many years.
Gaeltacht Minister Deputy Joe McHugh said today: “I want to extend my sympathies to Peter’s family at this sad time.
“His dedication to the language and to the education sector spanned his entire life and his input will be sorely missed.”
His Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 12.00 noon in St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn tomorrow.
He will be laid to rest in St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Cemetery in Coalisland.
Mr Gallagher is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Conal and Paul and daughters Maire and Aine.
