City Centre Neighbourhood Officers yesterday arrested a female in the city centre for Begging.
However, once brought into Custody it became apparent that she was the leading suspect in a number of thefts in the North West in recent weeks.
This morning she has been Charged for the Begging as well as three Thefts in the city including the Theft of a Charity Box from a Charity Store, a Theft from a Chemist and a Theft from an electrical goods store.
Derry/ Londonderry has an amazing Charity/ Siupport/ Volunteer Sector who support the vulnerable, the poor and the needy.
Organisations such as the Methodist Mission, Rainbow Project, Woman’s Aid, Simon Community, NICEM, Foyle Search and Rescue, CAP Debt Counselling, Citizens Advice Bureau, Foyle Haven, Foyle Hospice and many more, work on the frontline with those most in need and at risk.
It is organisations such as these that need the funding and know where the money needs to be spent to make the greatest impact.
This case highlights why Begging is a crime and Police would therefore urge people to donate to organisations such as those mentioned above as you know where your money is going.
