FORMER Derry City players Patrick Kavanagh and Marc Griffin were on song in a 2-1 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division win for Bohemians at the Brandywell tonight.
Derry broke the deadlock thanks to Philip Lowry’s early strike, before Kealan Dillon’s super strike levelled things on 28 minutes.
Mark Griffin turned home the winner on 78 minutes in a game in which Kavanagh starred.
City were super from the start, Patrick McEleney showing silky skills to carve home a chance which Anto Murphy managed to block with the Bohs keeper Dean Delany beaten.
Lowry smashed home minutes later from 20 yards but the Bohs leveller was even better.
He did break the deadlock moments later on eight minutes when his well-hit drive from 20 yards flew past Delany and found the keeper’s bottom left-hand corner.
Roberto Lopes chested the ball down on the edge of the box in the 26th minute before clipping the ball into Dillon’s path; the midfielder made no mistake volleying home past a diving Gerard Doherty.
Mark Timlin on 30 minutes and Ryan McBride on 60 minutes both had glorious chances to restore the City lead but were denied by superb Bohs defending.
Patrick McEleney was then stretchered off with a groin injury, the Shantallow man looking in extreme pain – and it looks like he may be out for weeks.
City were made to pay for their missed chances when in the 78th minute ex-City man Kavanagh running down the wing to lay on a finish for Griffin.
City’s run of bad luck continued when Timlin’s late effort crashed off the crossbar before substitute Morrison’s header was somehow saved by Delany.
Derry deserved a share of the points but it’s the Dubs heading home with three points.
