BREAKING NEWS: Residents have been moved from their homes after dissident gangs set off one bomb and tried to kill and maim with a second device in Derry tonight.
“Police are at the scene of a security alert at Crawford Square in Derry following an explosion,” said a PSNI spokesman.
“A second device has been found at the scene and residents have been evacuated as the further suspect object is examined.
“We would advice people to avoid the area.”
The incident has caused anger in the city tonight. The blast appears to have been outside the offices of the Probation Service.
Northland Road and Academy Road have been sealed off.
Police say the security operation will last until the morning at the earliest.
“This is a bloody joke,” said one resident forced to flee.
“The people behind this represent no-one and nothing. How can this further any cause except put people like me out of my house for God knows how long? It’s crazy.”
