IT should have been a three pointer but in the end Derry City came away with a share of the spoils against Longford in a 0-0 draw.
The Candystripes failed to take advantage of Longford’s weakness when they played for 70 mintues with just ten men last night.
Longford went a player down on 21 minutes when Connor Powell was sent-off for a poor tackle.
On the 56th minute, Derry City could have opened the scoring when Mark Timlin’s sparkling shot was tipped on to the bar by Longfordkeeper Paul Skinner.
The ball fell to City striker Anthony Elding but he seemed to stumble and was unable to net the opener.
Victory at a wet and windy City Calling Stadium would have seen Peter Hutton’s Derry move above Longford Town in the SSE Airtricity league table.
But the teams are deadlocked locked on 12 points in mid-table.
They have an identical goal difference and Longford are in sixth place as they have scored more goals than City.
Derry have won just one of their last six league fixtures.
They host Galway United on Friday, 8 May at the Brandywell.
