Tributes have been paid to 80-year-old Seamus McAnee – Derry’s ‘Mr Credit Union’ – following the announcement of his retirement after 44 years’ service.
The SDLP’s Mark Durkan extended his warmest congratulations to Seamus McAnee on a lifetime contribution to the Credit Union movement.
“His natural warmth, empathy, spirit of engagement and active solidarity have made him the epitome of the co-operative ethic.
“His energy, experience, insight and love for the people of Derry have made him an invaluable asset in the powerfully successful Derry Credit Union.
“He is also a national treasure of the wider Credit Union movement for the motivation and inspiration which he radiates with his natural, but special, spirit of service.
“Seamus has also been an articulate advocate of policy and legal changes to enable credit unions to better serve members in a changing economic environment.
“He has truly earned his retirement as a special dividend for such a long and valued contribution.”
