Police at Strand Road are advising lorry drivers and operators to be vigilant over the thefts of batteries.
The advice follows incidents at industrial premises in the Campsie area at the weekend.
In one incident, leads were cut to remove four batteries from vehicles. The batteries were valued at £600.
In a second incident, two batteries were stolen from a lorry. The thieves also stole a Sat Nav system, tools, and diesel from the lorry.
Inspector Jonny Hunter said the batteries were being targeted for their scrap value.
“There have been similar incidents in North Antrim in recent weeks. We are asking lorry drivers and operators to be vigilant and also encouraging scrap metal dealers to be wary over buying batteries,” said Hunter.
“There have also been incidents in which thieves have stolen batteries from scrap yards, so dealers who have legitimately acquired batteries should keep their stocks secure.”
