Former Derry City winger James McClean has weighed in on the on-going saga surrounding the International future of Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish. Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill called the talented winger into his squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier with Scotland next month.
However, Grealish declined the call-up amid fears he now wants to represent England instead of the Republic.
His withdrawal has sparked fury among Irish supporters and McClean has had his say on the issue.
McClean said, “Look, I’m sure the lad will make whatever decision he makes.
“I love playing for my country and all the rest of the lads do who play there.
“If anyone doesn’t want to play then so be it. Go and play for someone else, that’s my view of it.
McClean was coy about rumours linking him with a move to the New York Red Bulls in the MLS, although he did admit his next move was crucial.
“I’m fortunate to have quite a number of options but just for me at the minute I’m enjoying my time at home and letting other people take care of that stuff and do their job.
“I’ve just turned 26 so this next move is going to be the most crucial of my career. There won’t be any rushed decisions.
