SINN Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has praised the role of carers in looking after those with health problems.
The chair of the Assembly’s health committee said: “This week is Carers Week and it provides us with a timely opportunity to pay tribute to the amazing work carried out by carers every day right across our society.
“Carers provide unstinting service and care, often to their loved ones, and their dedication and commitment is an inspiration to all.
“At times it can seem like their hard work and high levels of care can go unnoticed as much of it takes place in the home.
“So events like this are a time to say thank you to all the carers out there.
“Without the efforts of carers, the pressures on our health service caused by the Tory government in London would increase.
“Carers Week allows us to show that we care for the carers and support them in the great service they provide day in, day out.”
