WEST Brom are close to agreeing a fee with Wigan for Creggan-born winger James McClean.
The offer of around £1.5m is the Baggies’s third bid for the Republic of Ireland international.
McClean has been with Wigan for two years following a £350,000 transfer from Sunderland and has scored 10 goals in 86 appearances in that time.
McClean started out his career with Institute before signing for Derry City.
The 26-year-old later joined Derry City however his contract was cancelled after the club agreed a £250,000 transfer for northern Premiership club Sunderland.
The proposed move to West Brom could be another pay for Derry City on future transfer fees once he left the League of Ireland club.
McClean’s move to WBA will depend on him passing a medical and also finalising personal terms with the Midlands club
But the move back to the Premiership should help to boost McClean’s confidence and could also the Republic of Ireland’s fortunes.
