DERRY City’s squad received a boost yesterday with the return of Wayne Dooley after a long lay off.
The winger, who has missed all this season with a back problem, played 45 minutes in the friendly game yesterday at Chapel’s Lane.
And Dooley also got on the score sheet with a a goal right on the stroke of half-time.
His return is a shot in the arm for the Candystripes as they play second placed Cork City this Friday night (kick-off 7.45 pm) at the Brandywell in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.
City, who also had trialist Paul George in a strong starting line-up, took the lead on 12 minutes after Philip Lowry fired home from 20 yards.
Eight minutes later Derry doubled their lead thanks to Barry McNamee’s inch perfect free-kick on the edge of the box.
Then with virtually the last kick of the half Dooley made no mistake drilling the ball home from the right hand side of the penalty box.
Peter Hutton’s side completed their scoring just after the hour mark thanks to substitute Ryan Curran, who made no mistake blasting home, on the turn, from 10 yards.
The friendly took place in aid of the Mark Farren Treatment Fund and it also rounded off the Inishowen fund raising campaign for the Greencastle and Candystripes legend.
