YOUNG Enterprise and John Peto from the NW Board congratulated local students from Cathedral Youth Club who started a business with the support of the charity this year.
The student business, named “Pieces Together” created a range of high quality jigsaws, place mats and coasters featuring photographs of the city.
The Cathedral Youth Club company represented the North West by submitting a video to the Northern Ireland judging panel were they were named as runner-up in the Young Enterprise QuickPitch Challenge 2015, where they competed with 8 other companies.
It is a fantastic achievement but it is no surprise that the group did so well after collecting the overall Best Quickstart Company award at the NW Trade fair in Foyleside in January this year.
Their products are so popular the Young Enterprise company are continuing to sell their products even after the competition
With support from Ulster Bank, the Young Enterprise QuickStart programme will have allowed 1,300 young people aged 12-16 to experience the real world of entrepreneurship alongside a volunteer business adviser.
Colin Jess, Senior Manager at Ulster Bank, said: “As a bank, we’ve been really pleased to support Young Enterprise and the Quickstart Programme for a fifth year.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for us to help young people understand how business works and encourage entrepreneurship.
“The energy and enthusiasm of all the participants is infectious and it is great to see such quality presentations from all of the finalists.”
Young Enterprise Northern Ireland is part funded by the Department of Education with support from the business sector.
