DUP MP Jim Shannon has claimed that recently-purchased police cars are not fit for use to deal with the dissident republican terror threat in the North.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Shannon said Vauxhall Vectra cars were “completely unsuitable for policing in Derry, west Belfast, or south Armagh”.
He said average-sized police officers “with body armour or weapons cannot get out if the car is attacked”.
The MP also claimed that the cars “could not be armoured”.
He called on the government to have discussions with the Policing Board about the recent purchase.
