And Tourism Northern Ireland has detailed one that will be a big hit with families and food lovers – the ‘ A Celebration of Food’ day in Limavady, Co Derry
Taste the best of local produce from culinary vendors within the Causeway Coast and Glens during ‘A Celebration of Food’ which will take place in Limavady on Saturday July 4.
From 10am to 4pm, at the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre everyone is invited to enjoy the best of local produce during this not-to-be-missed one-day food event.
Furthermore, local producers will be providing a wide variety of artisan food stalls, tastings, cookery demonstrations and talks. With so much delicious produce for sale and new produce to sample there is certainly something to whet everyone’s appetite.
There will also be children’s entertainment including face-painting, balloon modelling and dressed-up characters and special offers throughout Limavady shops taking place on the day.
Children will also get the chance to “Dig for Victory” by planting their own vegetable seeds to take home and watch grow!
Special guest and local celebrity chef Paula McIntyre, who is a resident chef on BBC Radio Ulster will be cooking up a storm and sharing with everyone her culinary skills.
Paula, who comes from a farming background enjoys traditional home cooking and uses the finest ingredients sourced from within Northern Ireland in all of her recipes.
Paula will be joined by a selection of local chefs in demonstrating cooking with local produce. Dinner time will never be the same again!
Sample and buy everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan rapeseed oil, pesto, cheeses, chutneys, preserves and jams to popcorn, homemade chocolates and ice-cream. So whether you’re a serious foodie or simply enjoy great family days out be sure not to miss this great food event.
There are some fantastic things to see and do in the area including:
- Benone Complex & Strand – A full programme of activities is planned at the Benone Complex & Strand including Zumba, Tennis Coaching, Archery, Dance Fit, Mini Sports Camp, Segway Express, Football and Hockey. You can also refuel with home cooked cuisine in the impressive new Bistro.
- Magilligan Martello Tower – The Martello tower at Magilligan is a well known landmark, built between 1812 and 1817 during the Napoleonic Wars, to guard against possible French invasion. This tower marks the end of a long tradition in Ireland of defensive buildings stretching back over 3,000 years to Bronze Age forts. Living History events take place here at the Tower during the summer months.
- Broighter Gold ÉCONOMUSÉE – Nestled among the yellow fields of Oilseed rape in Binevenagh Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you will find Broglasco Farm, home of Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil. Come and uncover the process involved in the production of the award-winning Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil. Visit by prior arrangements only. Please ensure that you phone in advance, as farmers are not always in the yard.
