Sinn Fein will table a motion today calling on councillors to support marriage equality at the monthly Derry City and Strabane District Council meeting.
The party has organised a vigil at 3.30 pm this afternoon, Thursday, June 25, outside the Guildhall.
It has urged party supporters and members of the LGBT in Derry to come out and show their backing for marriage equality.
The motion will be tabled by Cllr Colly Kelly on behalf of Sinn Fein.
The party supported the ‘Yes’ campaign in the Republic for marriage equality.
It wants the same rights for LGBT couples in the North.
