IT is back to the real stuff of football this evening when Derry City host Cork City at the Brandywell.
The Candystripes enjoyed a break from the league last week and beat Greencastle 4-0 in a friendly game.
Wayne Dooley made a welcome return to the team after a long lay off through injury.
He bagged a brace and manager Peter Hutton is delighted he is back.
Said Hutton: “He was sore the next day after his first run out for a long time. It will take time to get his fitness levels back up but it is good to have him back.”
Hutton doesn’t believe Dooley will make his starting 11 for the evening’s game but says “I would hope to have him in the squad in some capacity”.
The manager said the team carried out extra training sessions while on their break and he said it helped to improve the fitness of some players.
And he is under no illusion about tonight’ s task taking on second placed Cork City.
“They are a formidable team. They have a squad of 28 and their strength and depth is just formidable.”
Apart from two suspensions, Derry should be back to full strength for the 7.45 pm kick off game.
