THE parents of murdered Jonathan Cairns are meeting senior detectives today to discuss their ongoing investigation to catch his killers.
Hazel and Raymond Cairns were contacted last week by the the PSNI’s Major Inviestigation Team who are conducting fresh inquiries into the murder.
The couple say the phone call about the meeting “came out of the blue”.on Friday.
It has sparked fresh hope that police are making progress in the case to bring to book those who murdered his son.
A Facebook page has been launched to help catch the killers of Jonathan Cairns.
It was launched a week after the Derry Daily reported that a £30,000 reward has now been offered to put the teenager’s killers behind bars for a long time.
The family hope the page would bring forward fresh information.
The 18-year-old teenager was battered to death after a night in at a disco in Ballykelly in April 1999.
The murder investigation was re-opened by PSNI senior officer Detective Chief Inspector John McVea in 2012 in the hope of getting fresh information about the killers.
