AN energy company has lodged plans to build the North’s biggest wind farm in Co Derry.
SSE Renewables wants to install 36 turbines in the Sperrin mountains near Draperstown.
The project known, as the Doraville Wind Farm, could provide 115 MW of power.
The company says minor works would be needed to roads in the area to facilitate turbine delivery.
According to the planning application, 25 of the turbines would have a maximum height of 140m (450 feet) with the other 11 having a maximum height of 126.5m (413 feet).
It is anticipated that the wind farm would connect to the grid at the Magherafelt substation.
Meanwhile, a plan to erect seven large wind turbines in the townland of Barr Cregg near Claudy, Co Derry has been refused by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
It is one of its first major decisions made by the planning committee since being handed new powers.
There were more than 130 letters of objection to the plans, along with 358 letters of support.
The application was made by the renewable energy firm RES.
