THIS is the cache of petrol bombs and missiles police seized earlier this week during rioting in parts of Derry.
Four arrests were made for riotous behaviour and one for disorderly behaviour on Tuesday night.
All four were juveniles.
It was the second night on which police officers came under petrol bomb and missile attack.
On Monday night damage was caused to vehicles and property.
Superintendent Mark McEwan, the Derry City and Strabane District Commander, today asked parents and community groups to use their influence on young people to have them desist from involvement in disorder.
Police have revealed that Tuesday night was a busy one in the city with more than 40 calls between 6pm and 6am on Wednesday.
As well as disorder, officers were “providing a service to all the people in the community”.
These included:
* going to the assistance of a man in distress on Craigavon Bridge and another vulnerable man who was in danger of falling from the Foyle Bridge. The bridge was closed to traffic for an hour and it was officers who had been attacked in the Bogside who went to the man’s assistance and saw that he got medical help.
* helping to find a 14-year-old girl who was reported missing at 2am and managed to locate her;
* dealing with two incidents of domestic abuse.
Supt McEwan said these calls showed police were working hard to help all in the community.
He added: “There are a small number of people causing trouble, but there are many more who are opposed to it.
“I would encourage this greater number of people, to use their influence. I know that many do and I want to commend them.
“Police can deal with the outbreaks of disorder, but it is better for all in our community if we can prevent it happening in the first place.”
