A former Rangers player has been given a record ban by the English FA – following his foul-mouthed sectarian tirade against James McClean last season.
Kirk Broadfoot, now at Rotherham FC was given the ban because of an incident which took place between him and former Derry City star McClean in March last year.
The ban of TEN matches is a UK record which eclipses Luis Suarez’s ban of eight games for his racial taunting of Patrice Evra.
The details of what Broadfoot said was not disclosed due to a confidentiality clause in the case which prohibits those involved in the incident to speak about what happened.
Broadfoot was also fined £7,500.00 and forced to enter an education programme as part of his charge.
McClean is one of the most controversial players in the English game and his beliefs have got him into hot water in the past.
His stance on the poppy prompted widespread anger last season.
