POLICE searches in Derry against “violent dissident republican activity” have now ended.
Officers from the PSNI’s Tactical Support Group and Army Technical Officers carried out two searches which lasted around five hours.
A total of six armoured landrovers pulled into Ederowen Park of Galliagh this morning around 11 am to carry the search of a bungalow.
A second bungalow was searched in Glendale by officers in a further three landrovers and an ATO landrover.
Boiler suited TSG officers wearing white forensic masks were accompanied by plain clothed detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit based at Maydown.
The searches are being carried out under Section 41 of the Terrorism act.
The interior and exterior of the properties were also searched.
A PSNI spokeperson said: “Detectives investigating violent dissident terrorist activity are conducting a number of searches in Derry.”
However, police have not yet said if any items were removed for examination.
