Police crime scene picDETECTIVES are investigating after a man was left with a fractured cheekbone during a vicious attack by a gang in alleyway.

Police said seven or eight men set upon the victim in the Bonds Hill area of Derry on Saturday afternoon.

Details of the attack have only been released today.

It’s believed the gang followed him into the alleyway and then attacked him from behind.

The victim was then knocked to the ground and he was brutally punched to the face and head.

A black mobile phone and cash were taken during the unprovoked attack.

The man was left with injuries including a fracture to his cheekbone.

He was later conveyed to Altnagelvin hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said: “There is no apparent motive for the incident and we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.”

Information can be passed to the PSNI through the non-emergency 101 number or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
