WITH less than a fortnight to go before Club MTV returns to Ebrington Square, the city is buzzing as it gets ready to entertain 13,000 music fans on 15 August.
Around 13,000 people are expected to turn up in the city for the event.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion says it will be a fantastic event for music fans and will once again showcase the city as a music destination.
She said: “I am hugely excited that Club MTV is returning to the city later this month and that our young people are once again getting the opportunity to see top quality live music acts such as Mim and Liv Nervo of Nervo, Swedish electronic due, Galantis, and Nottingham based DJ Philip George performing lvie on their doorstep.
“This promises to be the city’s flagship outdoor music event of the year giving our young people an opportunity to be part of a live outdoor gig.
Mayor Cllr McCallion said she particularly welcomed the partnership arrangement between Club MTV and local events company Legacy Promotions saying it reflects the city’s ability to host large scale international events.
“The August 15 gig promises to be a fantastic occasion for the city and region and comes following the success of the MTV Crashes event that took place in the city during Music City 2014.
“Last year’s event was a phenomenal success with the Club night being MTV’s fastest selling gig.
“I am delighted MTV has returned for what will be a hugely successful event for everyone involved,” she said.
Mayor Cllr McCallion said the involvement of the local events company is a success story of the Council’s legacy commitment and she is confident the city and region will continue to attract events and gigs of this scale on a regular basis.
“The involvement of Legacy Promotions in this project is a sign of the growing confidence of the local business sector and I would like to commend the company for taking the initiative to enter this partnership with Club MTV to bring about a fantastic event for our youth,” she added.
Mayor McCallion said tickets for the gig are selling well but a limited number of tickets are still available on Ticketmaster or via local box offices.
“Come out and support this local event and be part of the Club MTV celebrations in our city and region,” the Mayor added.
