THE emergency services say one person was taken to Altnagelvin hospital this morning following a suspected carbon monoxide leak.
The incident happened at a flat in Derry city around breakfast time.
Fire crews and paramedic teams jumped into action following a 999 call about the gas incident at a block of apartments on Northland Road around 9.00 am.
It is not yet known what sparked this morning’s gas leak.
It is the second gas leak in Derry in just over a week.
Last Monday, July 27, a total of 12 people have been taken to Altnagelvin hospital as a precaution following a gas leak in the Waterside area of Derry.
The Fire Service and police evacuated a number of buildings on Spencer Road and the street has been sealed off while the scene is examined
It received a 999 call about the smell of gas at around 12.20 pm.
Three tenders from Crescent Link fire station were despatached to the scene.
It is believed an underground cable electrical fire caused carbon monoxide gas to be released, the Fire Service added.
The Ambulance Service was tasked to the scene after a number of people were “experiencing headaches”.
Several business premises including a dental surgery and the Sandwich Company cafe were evacuated.
