FOYLE Sailability are due to close their season with a final event in Greencastle this Friday, August 7 from 12 noon to 3pm as part of Greencastle Regatta.
Following a number of successful events both in Derry and Donegal, the cross border group of volunteers are keen to showcase once more the benefits of sailing and water based activities for people with disabilities.
Chairman Cathal MacElhatton said, “This has been a particularly exciting season and in my opinion, our best season yet.
“Not only have we significantly increased our number of participants with disabilities, the very reason we exist in the first place, we have added to our fleet and increased awareness of Sailability Ireland and Foyle Sailability through our ambitious Round Ireland Passage which was recently completed by a number of our volunteers who proudly flew the Foyle Sailability Flag around the Irish coast.
“We are investing our time heavily in one final push to make the 7 August event in Greencastle every bit as successful as those in Derry and Greencastle previously. We just hope that the weather works out in our favour”.
He added: “Booking is essential and I urge people with disabilities, their families and carers to book a place by contacting [email protected] or call Foyle Disability Resource Centre on 0044 28 7126 6593. Group bookings are also available. It is such a fantastic day out”.
Foyle Sailability was launched in May 2013 by a group of people from throughout the north west cross border region, interested in offering disabled people sailing and to eradicate discrimination between persons in the sport of sailing and in the wider community and to comply with the principles of equal opportunity.
