DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team are probing the distribution of hundreds of posters put in Co Derry which are appealing for information over the murder of Jonathan Cairns.
The 18-year-old was murdered after a night out in Ballykelly on April 25, 1999.
His battered and bloodied body was found in Loughermore Forest, a few miles from his home.
No one has ever been convicted of his murder.
However, detectives are said to be “making progress” in their enquiries to bring the killers to justice.
DCI John McVea recently visited Jonathan’s parents at their home to update them on the case.
The posters have not been circulated by his family, the police or the the social media campaign Justice for Jonathan Cairns.
The posters, which were put up around Ballykelly in recent days, had the headline “BREAK YOUR SILENCE”.
A police spokesperson said they are conducting enquiries in the area.
