THIS is the popular young man who was killed in a road crash yesterday on the Donegal to Derry road.

Marty Strain was a passenger in a car which crashed at Burnfoot.

The 19 year old, from Brae Road, Burnfoot, was killed instantly and another 19 year old woman is in a serious condition at Letterkenny General Hospital after the crash.

The male driver of the car, who is also aged 19, was taken to hospital but is not understood to be seriously injured.

There was no other vehicle involved in the crash which happened at Tooban at around 4.30am this morning.

The horrific road smash comes after another crash on July 12th which claimed the life of John Hegarty, 23.

John was a passenger in a car which crashed into a bollard at Carnashannagh in Burnfoot.

John was good friends with Marty Strain who perished in today’s crash.

A friend said “They all knocked about together in a large group. John and Marty would have known eachother very well. It’s all just so sad.”

The crash is the latest to cast another dark shadow over the Inishowen Peninsula.

The area is still sadly remembered as the scene for Ireland’s worst ever road crash which claimed the lives of eight people in a single collision on July 12th, 2010.

The scene of yesterday’s crash was preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are carried out a full investigation of the area.
