DETECTIVES have questioned a 37-year-old man over a serious assault in the Galliagh area of Derry yesterday morning.
During the 6.30 am assault the man in his 50s sustained a serious head injury.
The victim has been named locally as 58-year-old Danny Gallagher who was attacked in the Bloomfield Park area by two men who robbed him of his mobile phone.
A police spokesman said the man was arrested yesterday and taken to Strand Road police station for questioning.
He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Conor McStravicke, senior investigating officer, has appealed to anyone who was in the area of Bloomfield Park early yesterday morning and who witnessed the assault to get in touch.
Or anyone with any other information that could assist with the police inquiry to contact detectives in Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101.
