A clothing shop has suspended staff who used social media to taunted a Derry woman suffering from the skin condition psoriasis.
The staff ‘will be sacked’ sources said as lawyers have been brought in to organise their dismissal.
Ciara Moore has returned to her Galliagh home after being left traumatised by Facebook posts ridiculing her.
She had tried on a jumpsuit at Quiz which she planned to wear to a friend’s wedding.
When she returned home she saw Facebook comments by some staff members, on their own personal pages, that ridiculed her skin condition.
The 28-year-old said that after trying on the outfit in the changing room, she noticed that some of her skin had flaked off and fallen onto the floor.
“When I was paying at the counter I asked if I could get a brush to clean it up,” she said.
“I explained to her that I do have a skin condition and it is embarrassing. She said don’t worry about it, it’s fine.”
But she returned home to find some staff members had left horrible comments about her on Facebook.
“They had a whole big chat, a big rant explaining that I had left quite a mess in the changing rooms and that they were disgusted,” said Ciara.
“They said they were throwing up in their mouths cleaning up the mess.I was humiliated, I really was. I couldn’t believe that anybody could actually talk about me like that.”
Quiz sources say the staff involved have been suspended and they face further disciplinary action.
“They will be sacked,” said the source.
Ms Moore has been inundated with offers of products and support from companies across Ireland and Britain.
In a statement Quiz said: “We are deeply sorry for any upset caused by this employee posting a personal Facebook comment and advise that the matter is being dealt with at its highest level internally and we will be taking all actions necessary in this instance.”
The company added that it “values customer service above all” and will be in contact with Ms Moore.
