DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team have released a 25 year old woman arrested in the Derry area this morning in connection with the Paul McCauley murder.
She was taken to Strand Road police station for questioning.
The suspect was being questioned about witholding information about the murder from detectives over the past nine years.
Police now say she has been released pending further inquiries.
Her arrest brought to seven the number of people who have been arrested since Paul died in June after remaining in a vegetative state for nine years.
One man has been charged with murder.
Another has been reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
The other five individuals have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
In July, detectives and uniform police carried out a leaflet drop as part of renewed attempts to reach out to those individuals who the murder inquiry team believe have information about the attack on Paul and his friends and those involved.
Paul (38) died in June month in a care facility almost nine years after an attack in July 2006.
He was attending a summer BBQ at the rear of a house in Chapel Road on 15 July 2006.
At 3.20 am on 16 July, only three people remained at the BBQ.
A group of up to 15 people, many of them teenagers, came from out of the bushes and attacked Paul and two of his friends.
After the assault the group made off in the direction of Irish Street.
