DERRY City and Strabane District Council is seeking the views and opinions of young people aged between 12-18 years, for inclusion in the Council’s Community Plan.
A series of events to get the views and opinions of younger persons have been organised during the month of September at venues across the Council area to gauge young people’s views on issues that matter to them.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion says it is vitally important that young people have their say in the future planning of the new Council and is actively encouraging young people aged between 12 and 18 to attend the sessions and let their voice be heard.
“The Community Planning process is a key priority for the new Council and by engaging directly with the public we can ensure that we meet the needs of all sections of the community, including our young people, as part of this process. I will be actively encouraging young people to attend the information sessions and to actively express their views and opinions for the city and district’s future development.. All of the information gathered during the workshops will help shape the final Community Plan and will ensure that young people’s needs are recognised within the Community Planning process,” she added.
The information sessions will take place at various locations across the Council area including the Glenview Community Centre, Cedar St, Derry, on 09 September from 6.30-8pm; the Melvin Sports Complex, Strabane; 10 September from 7 -8pm and the Pilots Row Youth & Community Centre, Rossville Street, Derry, on14 September from 7-8.30pm.
On 15 September, the Diamond Centre, 630 Barnailt Road, Claudy and the Dergvalley Leisure Centre, Strabane Rd, Castlederg; will both host an information session from 7-8.30pm while the Foyle Arena Centre, St Columbs Park, Derry and the Shantallow Youth Centre, Racecourse Road, Derry will both host an session from 7-8.30pm on 17 September.
