THOUSANDS of people have turned today to cheer on the runners in the Walterside Half Marathon.
Dublin man Mick Clohessy won the men’s half marathon in a time of 65.08 while local woman Catherine Whoriskey took the spoils in the ladies race coming home in 83.08.
The 13.1 mile new route has returned to its original home at St Columb’s Park.
Runners left Ebrington Square at 10 am and finished at the St Columb’s Park Running Track between 11.05am and 1.30pm.
Up to 1,900 runners took part and to ensure the safety of participants and other road users a number of temporary traffic restrictions were out in place for a short time.
These were identified in consultation with PSNI and Roads Service to minimise delay and inconvenience for both residents and motorists.
The runners travelled along the following roads: St Columb’s Road, Limavady Road, Waterfoot Park, The Gransha Grounds, the A2 Dual Carriageway (southbound), Foyle Bridge (eastbound), Lower Culmore Road, Bay Road, Queens Quay, Foyle Embankment, Foyle Road (southbound to junction at Bishop Street), Lower Deck Craigavon Bridge.
