POLICE in Derry are urging the public to help officers get drug dealers off the streets and behind bars.
Neighbourhood policing teams (NPTs) have issued a leaflet for the public in the hope that more information can be gather about the death dealers.
The PSNI across Derry has had huge success in recent weeks and months in tackling all levels of dealers.
But officer recognise the effect this has on local people living in the same area.
The letter states: “Dear local resident.
“Your NPT officers are concerned about street level drug dealing and effect his is having on the quality of life in your area. This can have a devastating impact on the area.
“We want to work with you to make your community safer.
“If you witness any drug dealing in your area:
* report it immediately to police;
* get a description of those involved:
* give full details of the incident and location;
* and give the identity of the culprits if known.
The leaflet also warns young people about the dangers of taking drugs and advises parents of their responsibilities, to know where their children are and what they are doing.
Anyone with information about drug dealing in their area is asked to call police on the 101 non-emergency number.
Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers on the freephone 0800 555 111.
