SINN Féin MLA Cathal Ó hÓisín has welcomed the announcement two major movies are to be made in Shackleton studios at the former British army site in Ballykelly creating over 1,000 jobs.
Mr Ó hOisín said: “It is great news for the entire area that Shackleton studios have announced two major productions are to be made at Ballykelly.
“These high budget films will create up to 1,000 jobs on site as well as contributing to other sectors in the local economy through the retail and hostelry trade.
“As at least 60% of the staff needed will be local there will be opportunities for tradespeople, local companies as well as casual labour.
“The Executive have been tasked with transforming the former army barracks at Ballykelly and this announcement is a welcome addition to the work already carried out.
“The site which will also be home to the new DARD headquarters has the potential to transform the economic fortunes of the Limavady region.
“So the offices of DCAL and OFMdFM need to be congratulated in bringing this latest initiative to Ballykelly.
“I look forward to working to bring further jobs to the site over the months and years ahead so that its huge potential can be fulfilled.”
