DETECTIVES at Strand Road in Derry are appealing for information about burglaries in the area on Wednesday.
Detective Inspector Lindsay Kitson said that yesterday evening, three burglaries were reported to police.
“In the Culmore area, residents returned to their home at Belvoir Park to find it had been ransacked. The culprits are thought to have been disturbed and made off from the scene. Several diamond rings were stolen.
“Meanwhile, in Eglinton, jewellery and a gold watch were stolen from a house at Gransden Park sometime between 2.30pm and 8.30pm.
“And in the Altnagelvin area, jewellery was stolen from a house at Ashgrove. The intruders also stole a large sum in £2 coins.
“We believe the house was entered through a downstairs window between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
“We are currently working to establish if there are any links between the three incidents. We would like to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activity or unknown vehicles close to any of the houses that were burgled.”
D/Inspector Kitson also urged local people to be vigilant and to remember that burglars could strike at any time of the day and not just during the hours of darkness.
“Keeping doors and windows locked and keeping an eye out for suspicious activity are crucial in protecting your home and your property.”
Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
