POLICE have recovered a viable pipe bomb type device following a security alert in Strabane.
Officers found the bomb in the rear garden of a house at Innisfree Gardens during a search of the property this afternoon.
Army Technical Officers were tasked to the scene and police evacuated a number of homes.
The device has been taken for forensic examination and the security alert has now ended.
Derry and Strabane district commander Superintendent Mark McEwan praised local residents for their patience and co-operation.
“This is just one example of how my officers keep people safe.
“I would ask anyone with any information about this incident or any other criminal activity to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
