SSE AIRTRICITY PREMIER LEAGUE: HEGARTY OFF TO WINING START AS DERRY BEAT ROVERS 1-0

Dean Jarvis grabs the winner for Derry City

HE has only been in charge a few days but already Paul Hegarty has his first win under his belt as  temporary Derry City manager.

A Dean Jarvis goal on 74 minutes is all that separated the two sides at the end of the match.

Both sides cancelled each other in the first half at the Brandywell (7.45 pm kick off) which ended scoreless.

The three points doesn’t push the Candystripes out the relegation dogfight just yet.

But they have five more games to go in the SSE Airtricity League to turn around their fortunes.

And if they can run 1-0 winners in all their remaining games, Derry City will have stayed up in the Premier Division.

If they can, it may convince Hegarty to take over his role as the permanent team manager after Peter Hutton left the club earlier in the week by mutual consent with the Board.
