DERRY singer/actress Bronagh Gallagher will kick off the Sound of Belfast music festival next month.
The festival also involves Stiff Little Fingers, The Lost Brothers, Ciaran Lavery & Ryan Vail, and Billy Harrison from Sixties band Them.
The November 6-14 event will culminate with the Divine Comedy, a chamber pop outfit fronted by Neil Hannon, from Enniskillen, receiving the Oh Yeah Legend Award in recognition of their exceptional contribution.
It will be presented during a special performance at the Mandela Hall in Belfast on November 14.
Divine Comedy had a Top 10 UK hit in 1998 with National Express.
There are 27 events planned over nine days of the festival.
A Music Cities conference will examine how Belfast can strengthen its cultural tourism status. On November 14, the Belfast Music Bus Tour will plot the stories and soundscapes of the city.
Stuart Bailie, chief executive of the Oh Yeah music centre, said: “It’s a joy to see Sound of Belfast returning. Last year we determined to fill November with exceptional local music.
“This year, we’re eager to make things even better and so many people are helping us along the way.
“The introduction of a Youth Conference and a Music Cities day allows us to imagine a city that is energised by music and sends out encouraging noises to a new generation.”
