STAFF from local charity Disability Sport NI and Paediatric Physiotherapists from across the North are hosting the 3rd ‘NI Junior Paralympic Fun Day’ event at Foyle Arena, in Co Derry tomorrow, Saturday. October 3.
The event, which will run from 10am – 4pm in the main hall at the arena, is supported by Belfast Harbour Commission and Comic Relief and is an opportunity for young people (5 to 17-year-olds) with physical/mobility disabilities to come along and try out a range of sports.
These include: Tennis, climbing, wheelchair rugby, hand cycling powerchair football, CP football, archery, boxing,wheelchair basketball, badminton and Boccia – so it’ll be an action packed day.
“We have places available for 40-50 participants and they can try out 1 or 2 sports or all 10 on offer, so it’s a great opportunity to have some fun, learn new skills, meet new friends and see which sports you really enjoy” said Aubrey Bingham, Senior Development Officer from Disability Sport NI.
Jenni Barkley, Belfast Harbour’s Communications and Corporate Responsibility Manager, added: “We are delighted to be able to support this event which offers a fantastic opportunity for children of all ages to have fun whilst building new skills and friendships.”
Organisers offered their thanks to Irish Football Association,Rochesters St Mary’s Boxing Clubs, Trailblazers Powerchair Football Club, Ulster Barbarians Wheelchair Rugby Club, Paul Logan Tennis, Foyle Valley Archery Club and Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club.
