SINN Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has welcomed the news that the Henderson Group has plans that will create the largest external network of lifesaving devices across the north.
It expected AEDs (automated external defibrillators) will be placed outside their stores and that upwards of 300 will be available 24/7 from December of this year at Vivo, Spar and Eurospar by 2016.
Councillor Colly Kelly said: “Defibrillators are now located in civic buildings, schools, sporting clubs, community organisations and many other locations across the North.
“This initiative by the Henderson Group to install upwards of 300 automated external defibrillators has to be commended. And I hope that other businesses follow this move.
“In 2011 I got unanimous backing for a motion calling for the introduction of the machines at council facilities and for staff to be trained in their use.
“And this year we have seen the installation of defibrillators in the city centre with the help of City Centre Initiative, Ambulance Service and various bodies.”
