A Derry man has faced a court charged with murdering a Glasgow man over two decades ago in Scotland.
Philip Morrison is alleged to have strangled Derek Sheerin to death before robbing him.
The 24-year-old’s body was found by three girls in Glasgow’s east end in undergrowth close to Celtic’s football ground on September 25, 1994.
Papers from Glasgow Sheriff Court claim that at an area of waste ground near London Road, Glasgow, 39-year-old Morrison seized hold of Mr Sheerin and struggled with him.
It is alleged he placed a belt around his neck and strangled him and robbed him of a watch, tobacco and £20.
Morrison appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday where he made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody by sheriff Kenneth Mitchell.
He will appear for a full committal hearing at a later date.
Detectives from Police Scotland and the PSNI’S Major Investigation Team (MIT) arrested Morrison in Derry on Tuesday.
He was flown back to Scotland for questioning before he was charged with murder.
