SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has this evening met with a delegation of young people from the NEET (Not in Employment, full-time Education or Training) Youth Forum during their visit to Brussels for the European Week of Regions and Cities.
Speaking after the meeting, Ms Anderson said: “I had a really informative meeting with a great bunch of representatives from the NEET Youth Forum this evening.
“In their youth employment manifesto they call for ten points that, are in reality, basic requirements to allow our young people to reach their full potential.
“I appreciate the efforts of the Department of Employment and Learning to support these individuals but a lot more can be done to allow participants to gain qualifications that they can use to gain meaningful employment.
“Like so many community and voluntary organisations across the north, the excellent work of the NYF is not guaranteed.
“Funding restrictions as a result of the attack on the block grant threatens the existence of so many excellent groups working tirelessly in our community.
“However, I am confident that their meeting with SEUPB and other funders will be positive. I applaud them on the excellent work carried out so far and I look forward to meeting and working with them in the future.”
