EXCLUSIVE: More than 200 new jobs are on the way to Derry with work due to begin on a Miami-style bar on the site of the Clarendon in the city.
Entrepreneur Michael Taggart is planning a stylish new super-pub, with classy lounges in the style of sister premises in both Miami and London, Derry Daily has learned.
“It will have a very international feel and will be nothing like we’ve seen in Derry before,” said a source close to the project.
More than 100 jobs will be created in the re-design and construction of the site, with up to 100 more when the pub re-opens in the late Spring of next year.
“The re-design will ooze sophistication and is aimed at attracting customers from all over the North West,” said the source.
“Sister premises in Miami and in London are hugely popular.”
Mr Taggart, from Drumsurn, was granted a bar licence in court this week. He has had several previous bar premises.
Granting the transfer of licence District Judge Barney McElholm said: “There will be great rejoicing in some quarters that the Clarendon Bar is re-opening; I wish you good luck Mr Taggart.”
